Building Resilience and Engaging Communities: Fraser Coast's Town Planning Updates

Flood Hazard TLPI: Strengthening Resilience

As climate change continues to influence weather patterns, the Fraser Coast Regional Council has adopted the TLPI 01/24 for Flood Hazard Areas to better prepare communities for potential flood risks. Effective from 7 March 2025, this temporary planning instrument ensures that developments in flood-prone areas adhere to updated safety standards.

By incorporating recent flood studies and updating hazard overlay maps, the TLPI overrides existing provisions in the Fraser Coast Planning Scheme 2014. This decisive action not only enhances community safety but also sets a benchmark for adaptive urban planning in a changing environment.

Public Consultation for LGIP: A Collaborative Approach

Sustainable growth requires thoughtful infrastructure planning, and the Local Government Infrastructure Plan (LGIP) is a cornerstone of this effort. Recognizing the importance of community input, the Fraser Coast Regional Council has prioritized public consultation as part of the LGIP process. This initiative, too, gained unanimous support at the council’s meeting.

Through surveys, workshops, and public discussions, stakeholders have been actively engaged to shape the region’s infrastructure priorities. This transparent and inclusive approach ensures that the LGIP reflects both community needs and strategic planning objectives, fostering a stronger connection between the council and its residents.

Looking Ahead

These initiatives demonstrate Fraser Coast’s proactive approach to town planning, balancing safety, sustainability, and community involvement. By addressing immediate challenges like flood hazards and incorporating long-term infrastructure strategies, the council is setting a strong foundation for the region’s future.

As these plans unfold, the Fraser Coast community can take pride in their collective efforts to shape a resilient and thriving region. Whether you’re a resident, developer, or stakeholder, staying informed and involved is key to ensuring these initiatives achieve their full potential.
